Two Wakefield restaurants have been recognised at the 2026 British Curry & Catering Awards, with honours going to businesses in George Street and Westgate.
Syhiba Restaurant was named Restaurant of the Year 2026, while Lala The Restaurant received the Best Pakistani Restaurant 2026 – North Region award.
The awards were presented at a ceremony at Cedar Court Bradford on Thursday, 17 September. Organisers said the event brought together restaurants, chefs and hospitality teams from across the sector.
Restaurant of the Year honour for Syhiba
Syhiba Restaurant is based at 17 George Street in Wakefield city centre. The independent restaurant serves Indian and Bangladeshi dishes and has built a local following in the city.
Its Restaurant of the Year award recognises the Wakefield venue’s work in a competitive regional hospitality market. Further information about the restaurant is available from the Syhiba website.
North Region award for Lala
Lala The Restaurant, at 84–86 Westgate, was named Best Pakistani Restaurant 2026 – North Region. The Wakefield venue specialises in Pakistani and Kashmiri cuisine and operates from one of the city centre’s main restaurant areas.

Recognition for Wakefield hospitality
The two results give Wakefield businesses recognition in separate categories and put locally based restaurants alongside winners from across the wider region.
