Work on two new accessible public toilets at Thornes Park is set to begin on 7 September 2026, with completion expected by December 2026. The facilities will be built within the Holmfield Park Pavilion.

One of the new toilets will include baby changing facilities. The council is also constructing a new access ramp and making wider structural improvements to the pavilion building. A dedicated toilet facility for staff and volunteers will also be added.

Funding and improvements

The scheme is being delivered through the Parks Capital Investment Programme and will refurbish and modernise the pavilion's existing toilet facilities. The investment is intended to improve the quality and accessibility of facilities for park visitors, families, members of the bowling club, and users of the park's sporting facilities.

The Friends of CHaT Parks supported the project's development and helped shape the scheme.

Facilities during construction

During the refurbishment works, toilet facilities will remain available at Thornes Park Stadium on the opposite side of the park, ensuring continued provision for visitors and organised sports users. The new facilities will be in addition to the toilets already available at Thornes Park Stadium during opening hours.
