Wakefield residents are being asked to donate unwanted coats and jackets to help people across the district during winter.
Wakefield Council and Biffa’s collection runs from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 November. Donors should look for purple bins carrying Wakefield Donation Drive stickers at participating venues.
Donation points
- Libraries across the district.
- The Community Give Box at Trinity Walk.
- Red Roof Centre CIC.
- Havercroft and Ryhill Community Learning Project.
- St Mary’s Community Centre.
The appeal accepts adult, children’s and baby coats and jackets. Items must be clean, have no rips or tears, have working zips or buttons and contain no corporate branding.
Collected clothing will be distributed to vulnerable residents and community groups, according to the council.
Councillor Julian Carter, cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: “Many people will have coats hanging in their wardrobes that are no longer worn but could make a real difference to someone facing a difficult winter.”
The appeal forms part of a wider textiles campaign encouraging repair, reuse and recycling. The council says clothing and textiles should not be put in household waste bins.
Further information is available on Wakefield Council’s old-clothing recycling page. Collection details were supplied by the council on 4 November.
