Wakefield councillors are being asked to approve a consultation on board and lodging contributions for adults supported by the Shared Lives service.
Cabinet will consider the proposal on Tuesday 20 October at 5.30pm. The consultation has not yet been approved, and no final change to charging arrangements has been agreed.
Shared Lives provides short and long-term placements for adults with additional needs in the homes of approved carers.
The council says board and lodging costs are currently included in Shared Lives placement fees, while people in most Supported Living services pay their board and lodging costs from benefits, with rent covered through housing benefit.
It wants to explore whether the arrangements should be brought more closely into line. Councillor Ansar Hayat, Cabinet member for adults and health, said the aim was for people in similar circumstances to make similar contributions.
If Cabinet approves the proposal, a three-month consultation would seek views from people supported by Shared Lives, their families, carers and other stakeholders.
The results, equality impacts, financial implications and options for change would then return to Cabinet before a final decision.
The 20 October meeting can be watched live or afterwards on Wakefield Council’s YouTube channel.
