The programme includes a free cathedral service, a Remembrance Sunday parade and wreath-laying service, and the Armistice Day two-minute silence at the War Memorial opposite County Hall.
Friday 6 November: Festival of Remembrance
A Festival of Remembrance Service takes place at Wakefield Cathedral at 7pm. It is free and open to the public, with no tickets required. Those attending must be seated by 6.45pm.
Sunday 8 November: parade and wreath laying
People wishing to join the Remembrance Sunday parade should gather at the Cathedral West Door. The parade will leave at 10.40am and walk to the nearby War Memorial, where the wreath-laying service begins at 10.55am.
Wednesday 11 November: Armistice Day
Members of the public are asked to arrive at the War Memorial opposite County Hall by 10.55am. The Mayor of Wakefield, Councillor Brian Moorhouse, will lead the two-minute silence at 11am, followed by wreath laying.
In the council’s announcement, the mayor said the events were an opportunity to remember the contribution of past and present Armed Forces personnel and that everybody was welcome.
