Wakefield Council is appealing for information after vandals deliberately damaged Wakefield Golf Course using motorbikes.
Large areas of the course were damaged, with the 5th and 6th greens particularly affected. The damaged greens were temporarily closed to allow essential repairs.
Course Reopens Despite Damage
The greens have now reopened to support qualifying competitions and meet governing body requirements. However, they remain difficult to putt on in some areas, and repair work is continuing during play.
Council Response
A Cabinet Member for Culture and Sport said: "This was a disgraceful and deliberate act of vandalism that has caused significant damage to the golf course and a totally avoidable disruption for local golfers. Our teams are now working to repair the greens and get them back up to standard as quickly as possible."
Police Appeal
The incident has been reported to West Yorkshire Police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting crime reference number 13260442827.
