Wakefield Council will launch its new Economic Growth Plan at WX on Tuesday, 4 August. The plan aims to create more opportunities for local businesses to grow and more high-quality employment opportunities for local people.
Business leaders and partners will gather to hear about work to attract investment, create high-quality jobs, and support a more skilled workforce across the district.
Focus sectors and priorities
At the event, priorities for supporting growth, investment, and opportunity will be highlighted. The plan focuses on high growth sectors expected to drive the district's future success: advanced manufacturing, logistics, and creative industries.
Sessions will outline plans to support businesses and help people develop skills at all stages of their careers, including through apprenticeships and on-the-job training. The plan aims to make the most of Wakefield's strengths, including its transport links, strong manufacturing base, and growing numbers of people working in creative roles.
Event programme
Councillor Johnson will open the event and introduce the new plan. Remarks from Tony Reeves, Chief Executive of Wakefield Council, will be followed by a panel discussion featuring local business leaders.
The Economic Growth Plan has been developed using insights and recommendations provided by the Wakefield Futures Commission.
