Indie rock band The Cribs have announced they will headline an outdoor concert at Tileyard North in Wakefield on 20 August 2027. The show will mark their first hometown headline performance since 2014 and comes 20 years after the release of their breakthrough third studio album, 'Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever'.
The Wakefield trio are made up of twin brothers Gary and Ryan Jarman and younger brother Ross Jarman. The concert will be supported by Leeds band ¡Forward, Russia!.
Why Tileyard North matters to the band
Gary Jarman, bassist and vocalist, said the venue holds particular significance. "This event is near where our old studio, Springtime, used to be located - so it will be an emotional return," he said.
The band have not played a Wakefield show since headlining Long Division Festival in 2014. Gary explained the practical reasons behind the long gap: "We have been determined to try and make a Wakefield show happen for a long time now. It's always been a bit tricky, because the days when we could just show up and play a secret club show are long gone - there's no way we could get insured and covered for a show like that."
The album's lasting impact
Reflecting on 'Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever', Gary said: "In hindsight it was a real breakthrough. It put us into the mainstream - with all of the benefits and drawbacks that entails. I'm glad we got to experience that, and glad that we made it through unsullied. We can feel comfortable returning to it 20 years later and still feel like it holds up, like its sincerity has carried it through."
The Cribs' most recent album, 'Selling a Vibe', reached Number 5 on the UK Album Chart.
About the venue
Tileyard North began hosting summer concerts in 2026. Recent acts performed there include Sophie Ellis-Bextor, The Fratellis, Ocean Colour Scene and The Vaccines.
Toby Womack from Futuresound Events said: "I am so pleased to be able to bring back our Live at Tileyard North Series for 2027. We couldn't think of a better way to launch our second edition than with The Cribs' first hometown show in over 10 years - this will be incredibly special."
