Wakefield Council is supporting Vico Homes to deliver 69 affordable homes for rent and shared ownership on the site of the former Castleford swimming baths.
The Council sold the land to Vico Homes earlier this year. The new housing is being made possible after the Council agreed to use developer affordable housing contributions to bridge the funding gap.
How the scheme is funded
The Council has made a 40 percent funding contribution through Section 106 affordable housing contributions. This money comes from developers through planning agreements and has not come from Council Tax or Council reserves.
Vico Homes has also secured funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to support the demolition of the former swimming baths and prepare the site for construction.

This development is an important step towards our ambition to provide 10,000 more homes over the next 10 years."
Timeline
Demolition work is expected to begin in September. Machinery and equipment have now arrived on site ahead of work getting underway. Completion of all homes is expected by Summer 2028.
