Wakefield Council's new administration has marked its first 100 days in control with a focus on practical improvements to neighbourhoods, roads, and local growth.
Council Leader Cllr Karl Johnson said the administration has been listening to residents and identifying where improvements are needed since taking control in May. "We're taking real, practical action that delivers an actual difference to people. Spending money wisely, cutting waste, and improving our communities," he said.
The council has already made changes to city centre cleaning and road work. "We hope you're starting to see a positive impact on things like cleaning up our city centre and smartening up our roads. We're doing things properly rather than papering over the cracks," Cllr Johnson added.
Key achievements in first 100 days
The administration has set out ten priorities focused on delivering practical improvements.
A £1.3 million saving was made by revising the school uniform support scheme, while protecting support for families on free school meals and those facing hardship.
The budget for road markings has been doubled and targeted action launched to tackle overgrown grass and weeds. New technology is being trialled to improve road investment efficiency.
City centre regeneration review
The council is reviewing regeneration plans for the city centre and asking residents to help shape future plans based on what people want and what the local economy needs.
