The Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr Brian Moorhouse, will abseil down Wakefield Cathedral on Saturday 19 September as part of The Big Charity Abseil. He is raising money for Stepping Stones Baby Bank, his chosen charity.
The abseil will see participants descend from the tower platform to the ground — a distance of 164 feet, or 50 metres. Access to the tower platform is via 170 internal narrow medieval stone spiral stairs.
About the charity
Stepping Stones Baby Bank is a non-profit organisation that supports families in Ossett, Horbury and surrounding areas with baby essentials to ensure no child goes without.

Cllr Moorhouse said: "I'm really looking forward to the challenge of The Big Charity Abseil. It's a fantastic way to bring people together to raise money for some really important charities while creating memories that will last a lifetime."
