Wakefield Council has launched its autumn 2026 programme of adult education courses, offering residents a range of classes to develop new skills and pursue personal and professional goals.
The programme includes courses in digital and business skills, education and training, and maths and English. A new addition is an Artificial Intelligence Essentials course designed to help people understand the technology and learn how it can assist in daily life.
Free courses and financial support
Many courses are free. Learners who are looking for work or earning less than £26,800 are eligible for free courses, even where fees normally apply. Some residents may also receive assistance with travel costs, equipment, and childcare.
An extensive offer of free accredited level 2 courses is available online, giving people the flexibility to study at home.
Where courses are held
Courses are offered at the Manygates Centre in Sandal and St. Mary's Community Centre in Pontefract. For people seeking to improve employability, Wakefield Adult Education is also offering classes at Job Centre Plus in Wakefield and Hemsworth.
Wakefield Council reported that more than 97% of learners successfully completed their course last year.
