Film Wakefield will hold a networking event and expo to mark its first anniversary on Thursday 24 September at 6pm at WX Wakefield Exchange. The event is free to attend.

The organisation was founded in 2025 to promote Wakefield and the Five Towns as locations for film and television production, and to support local creative talent and businesses. It was created by industry experts including Policelot, Wakefield Council, Experience Wakefield, 1983 Group, Chairwork Studios, Creative Wakefield and Production Park.

What to expect at the event

The event is open to anyone who works in, or wants to work in, the screen industries. It offers the opportunity to network, share ideas and connect with experienced professionals who have built successful careers in film and television.

Film Wakefield was founded by David Clayton, a Wakefield-based industry professional with more than 30 years of on-set experience. Clayton said: "What we've achieved in just one year demonstrates the appetite and potential that exists within Wakefield's creative community. We've built new relationships, showcased local talent and started important conversations with industry partners."

Growth in local film production

Over the past year, the Wakefield district has seen an increase in filming enquiries. Productions supported by Film Wakefield include the film 'Faith', which was filmed primarily in Normanton and selected for its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2026. The organisation has also supported 'All Creatures Great and Small'.

Film and television productions bring economic benefits to the local area by creating demand for accommodation, catering, transport, locations, trades and other professional services. This creates opportunities for local businesses and suppliers to become part of production supply chains.

Film Wakefield supports productions to discover, access and film in Wakefield, championing the area's unique locations and creative talent to attract new investment and create opportunities for local businesses and residents.

How to book

Tickets for the free event are available to book on Eventbrite. The networking event runs from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday 24 September at WX Wakefield Exchange.
