Wakefield Council has announced November’s Christmas light switch-on dates for Castleford, Ossett and Pontefract.
Each event will include festive markets and entertainment, with the lights scheduled to be switched on at 5.30pm.
Castleford: Sunday 22 November
Castleford’s event runs from noon to 6pm. It moves to a Sunday this year, rather than its previous midweek slot.
Ossett: Saturday 28 November
Ossett’s celebrations run from noon to 7pm, including the 5.30pm switch-on.
Pontefract: Sunday 29 November
Pontefract’s event takes place from noon to 6pm, with its lights also due to come on at 5.30pm.
Markets, music and family activities
The council says the events will feature market traders, street food, funfair rides and a giant snowglobe, alongside performances from local groups. Food, drinks and market purchases will be available to buy.
Rhubarb Radio will compere the main stages. Announced performers across the programme include Castleford Male Voice Choir, the Liquorice Singers and Stagecoach Pontefract.
Culture and sport cabinet member Councillor Lukasz Borcz encouraged people to enjoy the events and support town-centre businesses.
Wakefield city centre
Wakefield’s city-centre switch-on is scheduled for Friday 13 November at 5.30pm as part of Light Up Wakefield.
Visitors should consult the individual Experience Wakefield event listings for travel, accessibility information and any changes before setting out. The district dates are additional practical details, rather than a repeat of the previously announced Light Up festival programme.
