Wakefield Council is asking residents, businesses and visitors in Castleford to share their views on plans to strengthen powers to tackle anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
The council is seeking feedback on proposals to renew and expand the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), which is due to expire in November 2026. The PSPO helps prevent anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
What the council is proposing
The council plans to:
- Apply the PSPO for a further three years
- Introduce new rules to deal with a wider range of anti-social behaviours
- Expand the PSPO area to include the retail park between Albion Street and the railway line
How PSPOs work
Public Space Protection Orders give councils powers to restrict or prohibit activities in public places that have a detrimental impact on local communities. Anyone failing to comply with a PSPO can receive a fixed penalty notice of up to £100 or a fine of up to £1,000.

The survey is open until 27 September and takes a few minutes to complete. Responses are completely anonymous. The council is particularly keen to hear from Castleford residents and people who work in the town.
